Triple Crown Winner Mohsin Charania Shares His Views On Online vs. Live Poker

Mohsin Charania

The poker community has a Triple Crown winner after five long years after poker pro Mohsin Charania won his first ever World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet. Charania won his first triple crown in the process as he had earlier won Main Events at the European Poker Tour (EPT) and the World Poker Tour (WPT). Charania is one of the six poker players to have accomplished this special feat.

He told PokerNews.com that he did not really think much about winning the Triple Crown. That might have been a good strategy because he won his first WSOP gold bracelet within just 10 days after making that statement. Charania has been playing poker consistently for the past nine years and it’s the fierce competition which drives him to play poker.

The poker pro said that people started talking about the Triple Crown soon after he won the WPT title. He said it is nice to think about the Triple Crown, but he decided not to consider it as he hardly played mixed games and winning a no limit gold bracelet is a pretty difficult task. He would go on to say that the WSOP is actually designed for players like Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu who play mixed games. He also said that one of his biggest strengths is adapting his playing style to various situations. He had to rely on that strength on multiple occasions which enabled him to become one of the few Triple Crown winners.

The debate as to whether poker is a game of skill or a game of chance has been discussed for decades and a final conclusion is yet to be reached. Charania believes it’s a combination of both as even if one has experience and skills, the cards sometimes just don’t work in one’s favour. If one has to win, one needs luck and one’s opponents have to make some mistakes.

The poker pro says that he is mostly an online poker player but also takes part in live poker tournaments every now and then. Charania believes that both online and live poker tournaments have become extremely competitive in recent times and online poker operators such as PokerStars are providing players with an unbeatable online gaming experience. Charania believes that live poker is more of a soft game. The only disadvantage is that one can play only 20 live tournaments per year while one can play twenty online tournaments per day.
